The solver has been checked against 14 published tables from four manufacturers: Remington, Hornady, Norma and Nosler. It lands within a tenth of a percent of Remington's own velocity numbers, and checking that closely surfaced four separate findings, including a Remington wind drift column that is inconsistent with Remington's own velocities, and a Hornady ballistic coefficient that does not reproduce Hornady's own published table. Nothing is behind a login
There is no login anywhere in the app, including at purchase. An offline or failed entitlement check never revokes something you have already unlocked. Your rifle profiles and DOPE log are files on your phone, not rows in a database that can go away.
The whole solve runs local
Drop, wind drift, spin drift, Coriolis, energy, and time of flight are all computed on the phone. Profiles, DOPE log, and truing history are stored locally. Station pressure comes from the phone's own barometer, read where you are actually standing, which beats a weather API pulling from an airport forty miles and a ridge away. The sight picture and the audit page render with the radio off.
One carve-out, stated rather than buried: the optional photo-to-load ingestion in the Field Pack talks to a server. It is a prepare-at-home convenience and is never needed while you are shooting.
See the shot, not a number to translate.
Most solvers hand you a number and leave the rest to you: 4.2 mils, 14 MOA, hold somewhere on a reticle you may or may not own. DirectDOPE draws the animal instead, at the true angular size it will actually occupy in your glass at that range, and marks the calculated aim point directly on it. At 380 yards, this is how large the vitals actually look, and this is where the bullet is going.
No brand-name reticle is shown, named, or implied. The aim marker is generic, which means the picture works the same whatever scope is on the rifle.
It answers where do I hold, not what number do I have to remember and convert under time pressure.
